Our fashion savvy intern checked out the Celebration of Curves exhibition Monday--here are her thoughts:
Hello again, this is Joy D.
Recently I had the pleasant opportunity to attend The Fame Movement's Curves event at Wix Lounge celebrating plus size models. The organization's goal is to promote and create a community between women.The event was highlighted by the presentation of Cathrine Westergaard's photography which also rejoiced women with curves. This was an especially important event because it took place during NY fashion week.
It has always been a dream of mine to be a model and these women were standing in front of me in all their glory. The most refreshing part of the event was how friendly they were. It was great speaking with them about how they felt about being a plus size model. Everyone seemed to agree that plus size models were not only under represented but not represented at all. It is such a shame that in over 62 percent of countries plus sized models are not represented in fashion weeks.
With word that Marc Jacobs will be launching a plus size line and a new plus size model presentation in the tents things look promising!
