Interview with Stylist Blane Charles

Here's my interview with my dear friend and stylist, Blane Charles from Beau-T by Blane. Blane let me interview him for Easily inspired, the Creative Cookie zine. When Blane and I met we had a connection that was instant...we're both Sagittarius who love fashion, food, and connecting with artistic people. What I love most about Blane is that he's always pushing me forward--he's such a fantastic supporter. Check back soon for a video interview with Blane and I later this week...

CC: What do you do? 

Blane: I make people feel great about their lives and empower them to live at the maximum capacity that they can live through customized managment of their wardwrobes and/or their interiors.

CC: How long have you been doing this?

Blane: Well, I started doing it while I was traveling from 1990-2000, as a dancer and a model, for my friends as they were going through moments of transition, so either when they were having a baby, getting married, going into college or coming out of college into the work force. Those moments of transition where they felt a little bit unsure of which direction to take as far as their wardwrobe -- or just, also, feeling
inspired in their space. 

CC: What  can we expect to see from you next?

Blane: Having my own gallery; I already know the name of it but I can’t say it yet. Also syndicating my talk show and publishing many many books!!

CC: This first issue of The Creative Cookie zine is all about inspiration drawn
from art, beauty, and nature. Are you easily inspired? What’s your latest inspiration?

Blane: I’m easily inspired because I have learned to be truly open and accept-
ing of all the diverse beauty that surrounds me. After traveling abroad for ten
years, I feel very fortunate to now have my own Design/Wellness Consulting
Company BEAU-T BY BLANE!

What’s inspiring me right now is supporting my clients going for and living their dreams. This is one of the good things that’s happening during these financially
challenging times. The entrepreneurial spirit is alive and kicking. That is really
inspiring!❤

Full Time Fabulous Update

I'm also introducing a new illustration of moi by fashion blogger & illustrator Lacee Swan. I'm in my signature Frost glasses, a spotted Modcloth dress, and multi-color suede shoes. You'll be seeing more of this girl in the days to come & I'll be writing about Lacee later this week!

Fashion Fiction Contest

Writing is one of my favorite creative things to do. Writing enables me to explore my reality and record the world as I see it. One example is a series of short stories I've been working on about a quirky artist named Ruby, and of course, fashion always jumps into the plot! Since I'm having such a good time with Ruby and writing, I wanted to share and be inspired by more voices. I'm also in the middle of a very exciting contest myself so I thought to myself....[insert drumroll please]

I'm happy to announce the first Creative Cookie Fashion Fiction contest! What is Fashion Fiction? It's fashion focused flash fiction in 650 words or less. From magical stilettos to earrings that grant supernatural powers, a serial killing stylist to a bow tie with talking paisleys. It's your imagination - I won't judge you personally, just the writing itself so dare to move an envelope. What's your fashion reality? What is your fashion fantasy? How does it translate into flash fiction? 

What happens next?

Submissions will be published on the Creative Cookie blog & in a special edition of Easily inspired--the Creative Cookie zine! One lucky winner will get $50 gift card to Barnes and Noble & other goodies from Creative Cookie sponsors. The winner will be selected by a team of writers who love fashion. Tailor short pieces that you've already started or begin from scratch, just be sure to follow these guidelines.

Guidelines

1. all entries must be edited for spelling & grammar and be between 200-650 words
2. stories should be included in the body of the email, no attachments please
3. writing may be any genre from romance to mystery, but must have a strong fashion focus
4. all submissions should be emailed to [email protected], by November 22, with 'fashion fiction' in the subject line
5. all submissions should include a 3-4 sentence bio and be sure to include links to your blog or website

I can't wait to read your wonderful works--remember the deadline is November 22nd! (Don't worry about forgetting because I'll remind you!)

 

Arche Pop Up Shop

On Monday night I did something that I rarely do; I hopped on the Brooklyn bound L train to Williamsburg for the opening party of the Arche Pop Up Shop.  Presented by Rouge 58, a foxy urban gallery, the show combines the work of emerging & established designer in jewelry and fashion. I was there to see my friend Lacee Swan's t-shirt line, but of course I checked out the creations of other featured artists:

I mix, mingled, and left the party early; it was a school night. The show closes on November 13 and Whitney Fierce will be deejaying--you should check it out. Here's a bit of what I saw:
