It was so cool bumping into Shervin, of Shervin's World, while running errands in Soho one Thursday afternoon. I was wearing my favorite little blue vintage jacket w/ medallion print, metallic dress, vintage accessories, and Ivana Helsinki tote. Here's a photo see another here.
Every Wednesday I teach a Runway Fashion Design class at a fab school in the Bronx. Yesterday, we watched the first 10 minutes of the latest episode of Project Runway and then fast forwarded to the runway show. I wanted to give my students an understanding of the design process, from inspiration to execution.
I was very giddy when one girl grabbed a marker and started to create a bar graph after watching the runway segment. We paused Project Runway and gave our assessment of each collection in numeric form, ranging from 0-100, and then averaged the totals equaling each designer's "level of greatness".
When we pushed "play" Heidi announced who was going to fashion week and who would be out (bye, bye Laura). It was astonishing that the students assessments were correct and in sync with the judges.
I'm inspired by the connection between mathematics and fashion that they found! What an unexpected lesson.
Now that the fall season is in full swing, and the weather in many parts of the world has begun to change, it is time to update your wardrobe accordingly, if you haven’t done so already. If you are indeed still looking for new fall clothing, you are in luck! There are a number of very nice, designer collections specifically designed for the fall and available in various places online and in stores. For example, just a quick look at some of the hottest items in the Mulberry collection available at my-wardrobe.com can give you a number of good ideas for fall attire.
Naturally, one thing that many people first look for when considering fashion for cooler months of the year is outerwear. The Mulberry collection – particularly the women’s collection, upon which this article will focus – excels in this category, with a number of options that are tasteful, stylish and warm. For example, you may want to take a look at the extremely appealing “Carter Trench” jacket, which is versatile in what it can be worn with, but also offers a style all of its own, and looks as if it can keep you quite warm. Then again, if warmth is your primary concern, you may want to go a step further and check out the “Clarandon Coat,” which is a bit heavier and lighter but also extremely stylish. You really can’t go wrong with any of the outerwear featured in this collection.
To help round out your fall wardrobe, you may also want to consider some of the accessories in the Mulberry collection. For example, there are a number of scarves available that are appropriate for the fall season both because, of course, they will keep you warm, and also because they are designed with color schemes that fit the time of year. Additionally, if you live in a particularly cold part of the world, you may also want to look into some of the gloves in the collection. We all know how miserably uncomfortable cold hands can be – so why not take the opportunity to enhance your personal style with some nice designer gloves?
All in all, there are simply a number of tasteful items to consider in this Mulberry fall collection. Whether you need a new coat, some warming accessories, or even a new handbag to fit the new season, you ought to be able to find something that suits you. Each and every one of these items can go a long way toward helping you to establish your own fall fashion, and make a statement that is uniquely your own this new season!
I'm drinking kale, carrot, and celery that I juiced as I write this post. I like eating healthy almost as much as I like fashion;).
So, I was intrigued to learn more about the efforts of the NY Coalition for Healthy School Food (NYCHSF) after picking up the Healthy Food in Fashion flier recently. Funds raised at the gala will support the plant-based work that the NYCHSF is implementing in schools statewide. I'm happy to support this worthy cause of helping students to become food- and health-savvy.
The gala will take place THIS evening at the New York Academy of Medicine. Guest will enjoy healthy food and drinks from 24 different vendors + see a 'green' fashion show!
Online ticketing is now closed but you may purchase a ticket at the door!
