The Creative Cookie Party 12pm to 4pm
The Creative Cookie Party will be a hip crafty affair for all ages. Enjoy cookies from Treats Truck, nail station, and sounds by DJ Sharri. Meet mr and see what I'm up to for the fall and beyond. I'll be leading a craft on how to make a headband out of a tape measure too :) Black Gotham Party 4pm to 7:30pm
The relaunch will be hosted by Jashua Sa-Ra, the Event Director of the Black Gotham Experience. He's pulled together featured spoken word artists Ramya Ramana and Duane Ferguson. We'll give away a few samples from our new OSWS Post Card series - also available online. Join us for good vibrations and a special announcement by Creative Director, kamau ware.
On Sunday near Lincoln Center I spotted Bill Cunningham coasting along
the sidewalk looking for space to park. After years of covering him
there he was, the godfather of street style photography, 'on the
street' and within reach -- iconic blue parka and all! Check out this funny story.
A fashion dream come true.
Starstruck I stood without words to communicate my gratitude for his creation of the genre of photography I love most - street style.
As serendipity would have it, kamau was there to capture the moment that I got to meet Bill's bike and magically, it matched my look ;-)
As I was leaving Lincoln Center yesterday I spotted the ambitious + talented Layana Aguilarwith two of her Project Runway castmates, Benjamin Mach and Samantha Black! I quickly got Layana's attention to complement her on her designs from week to week as a season 11 contestant on my fave show. We chatted about her new baby boy and her latest collection too!
Sew happy to meet you, Layana; you're such a Creative Cookie!!
One of my favorite things about New York Fashion Week is catching up with and meeting Project Runway peeps!
My talented friend and beloved mentor Kimberly Wilson is in the process of packing up a RV to drive across North America. While she's om the road she'll be connecting with cookies (like me) who have been inspired by her work. From September 14-November 16, Kimberly, her lovely beau, and their three furry sons will be traveling to a city near you. Click here to see the schedule or attend!
I'll be at the Brooklyn event and you should too!
Date + Time: Sun., Sept. 15th / 2-5pm / address will be shared w/ ticket
holders ahead of the event
In terms of fashion thinkers, there's about a bakers dozen of women who I admire and Nina Garcia is on that sheet. I started following the tough but sweet Colombian-born fashion journalist 9 years ago after learning about Project Runway, from my girlfriend Dee, while living in Pittsburgh. Nina's constructive style and critical eye have earned her a role as Fashion Director at Elle and Marie Claire magazines in addition to a coveted seat as a judge on my favorite show. On Thursday, I was excited to be invited to join a twitter chat with Ms. Garcia where she shared her tips and tricks to surviving fashion week.
It's the little things that add up and keep us turning towards our dreams. Thank you Nina for this retweet!
