TranquiliT photo shoot: fall 2011 behind the scenes

Last weekend I traveled to D.C. to model for the TranquiliT fall collection!

TranquiliT is a eco-friendly line designed by the delightfully talented Kimberly Wilson. I met Kimberly a few years ago while attending her yoga retreat. TranquiliT recently expanded to include vintage and reclaimed items too. I got to wear the cutest vintage dress and tutu during the shoot -- you'll see it in the video.

In addition to Kimberly, on set were: stylist and make-up guru Julia -- photog Patrick -- videographer Tim.

The experience was creatively overwhelming:).

The photographer in me wanted to shoot, the blogger in me wanted to write, the seamstress in me admired the construction, the stylist in me kept asking questions, and the yogi in me kept transitioning into tree pose. I loved seeing the collection up close and in action.

Watch the video to see the reveal of select nouveau designs and the gorg colours. Also be sure to "like it" + leave a comment on the YouTube page.

TranquiliT's fall line is being introduced later this month -- I'll be sure to let you know when and where!

Yoga at The Great Lawn {2010}

On Tuesday, June 22nd 10,000 yogis gathered in Central Park at an event hosted by Flavorpill and JetBlue, creating the world’s largest recorded yoga event. As participants arrived to celebrate the first day of summer and practice with Elena Bower, acclaimed yogi, poet Buddy Wakefield, comedian Reggie Watts, and the music of 13 Hands played in the background.

Generally speaking, fashion and yoga are diametrically opposed; one should not be worried about outer appearance while working on inner change, right? Well kinda, with an expected guest list of fashion industry elite including Veronica Webb, Donna Karan, stylist Lysa Cooper, and Vogue photographer Sandra Hamburg—it was almost impossible not to trend spot before the class began. After all, Central Park is in the heart of Manhattan, the fashion capital of the world. From the unfashionable to the Bohemian chic, light, loose, and free was the common thread amongst participants, most clad in a t-shirt, comfy shorts, and a colorful bandanna. It was surprising to see such a strong reference to the 80s via vintage inspired yoga wear. Some looked as if they had just walked off the set of The Breakfast Club.

Sascha Lewis, co-founder of Flavorpill explains, “Yoga can make the world a better place through its tremendous health benefits and as a conduit for greater awareness. Yoga at The Great Lawn will make those benefits accessible to a much larger community and inspire us all.”

Despite the weatherman's predictions, the spirit of the season was high and a fuzzy wuzzy feeling extended across the Great Lawn. Under simi-cloudy skies and blue mats, the class kicked-off a tranquil start to the summer.

rescued treasures

While home in Michigan this past weekend I visited my favorite thrift store, Rescued Treasures. Rescued Treasures is operated by the Muskegon Rescue Mission, one of West Michigan's oldest nonprofits (and it is the first organization that I remember volunteering at).

I walked out of the store after purchasing a wildly printed dress, a little blue jacket w/ white maxi piping, a few records, and this book-- Guide to Beauty:

I was initially drawn to the illustrations and photos but the articles were equally as good. The 37 year old publication has simplistic advice on caring for your hair, your complexion, your figure, and much more.  My favorite articles so far are about picking the right glasses and instructions on how to do "slim while you sit yoga". What a great grab at .49 cents.

What's been one of your favorite non-clothing thrift store finds?

See other finds at Rescued Treasures here.

Yoga w/ Anja Rubik

On Monday night I got a chance to take a sneak peak at Yoga for Nintendo Wii, the first 100% yoga experience, with supermodel Anja Rubik. In the game Anja and several yoga masters guide you through traditional yoga poses. I like Yoga Wii because it gives options that allow players to develop a training schedule based on your time and mood. Players can also select soothing music and an avatar. I'm looking forward to getting my copy of Yoga Wii; it will be an excellent supplement to my regular practice. I'm still sore, from Monday night, ouch (smile)!
